In response to severe flooding across Manipur, Manipur University has postponed all ongoing semester examinations. The decision prioritises the safety of students and staff amidst the escalating flood situation in the State.
In a statement, Manipur University declared, “This is to inform all concerned that all ongoing semester examinations under Manipur University are postponed due to the present serious flood situation in the State.”
Manipur University assures that new examination dates will be scheduled and communicated once the flood situation improves. Students and faculty are advised to stay updated with developments regarding the rescheduling of exams.
Simultaneously, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has declared a public holiday on July 3 due to continuous heavy rains and subsequent flooding. The declaration covers all government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations, autonomous bodies, and societies under the Government of Manipur. Banks, financial institutions, and LIC offices in the state will also remain closed on July 3, 2024.
The heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow, inundating areas in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal, and Bishnupur Districts.
Rescue and relief operations are underway through district administrations and concerned departments, urging the public to stay indoors except in emergencies to facilitate smooth evacuation and relief efforts.
However, Home, Police, District Administration, Relief & Disaster Management, Power, Health & Family Welfare, PHE, Water Resources, PWD, GAD, CAF&PD, MI, Forests, LDA, among other departments, which are involved in rescue & relief operations and essential services will continue to work.
Moreover, officers and employees of all the other departments will be available on phone calls for any emergency.
With respect to schools and colleges, a separate order dated July 2 has already been issued by the concerned department.
