Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to newly elected Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on assuming office, shortly after the inauguration of the new Dutch Government at Huis ten Bosch Palace.
In social media platform X, PM Modi expressed anticipation for strengthening the bilateral relationship between Bharat and the Netherlands across various sectors.
“Look forward to collaborating closely to enhance the Bharat-Netherlands partnership, especially in renewable energy, water management, agriculture, mobility, and new technologies,” wrote PM Modi.
The new Dutch Government was sworn in on Tuesday. It promised stringent new measures on immigration, following elections dominated by a far-right, anti-Islam party over seven months ago.
Speaking to media after the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Dick Schoof highlighted concerns about perceived threats from ‘the east’ to the Netherlands.
Tuesday marked the first change in prime ministership in the Netherlands in 14 years, as Dutch King Willem-Alexander administered the oath of office to the new government, with Schoof succeeding long-serving Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Schoof, former head of the Dutch intelligence agency and counterterrorism office, formalized his new role by signing the official royal decree at Huis Ten Bosch Palace. Alongside him, 15 other ministers from the country’s right-leaning coalition were also sworn in.
