Assam is grappling with severe floods that have claimed 46 lives, with eight deaths in the past 24 hours. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that over 16.25 lakh people across 29 districts are affected by this second wave of floods.
Dhubri, the worst-hit district, has 2,23,210 affected residents, followed by Darrang with 1,83,738 and Lakhimpur with 1,66,063. The floods have submerged 2,800 villages in 105 revenue circles, forcing 3.86 lakh people to seek refuge in 515 relief camps and distribution centres.
The floods have also impacted 11,20,165 animals. Rescue operations by NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, and other agencies have saved 8,377 people in the last 24 hours.
Infrastructure has suffered significantly, with 100 roads, 14 bridges damaged, and 11 embankments breached. Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger mark in many areas, worsening conditions in districts like Dhubri, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Goalpara.
