Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Mizoram next month to oversee the relocation of the Assam Rifles’ base from Aizawl’s centre to Zokhawsang on the outskirts of the city.
During his recent visit to Delhi in June, Lalduhoma discussed the relocation plan with Shah, who expressed firm commitment to the decision. “A decision to shift Assam Rifles’ base from Aizawl to Zokhawsang has been taken already. We are committed to shift the headquarters to the designated place. I am coming to Aizawl to inspect steps taken towards shifting the Assam Rifles’ base,” Lalduhoma quoted Shah as saying during their meeting.
Additionally, Lalduhoma met Union Health Minister JP Nadda, who assured him that the first instalment of a Special Package for Mizoram’s lone medical college, Zoram Medical College, amounting to Rs 170 crores, will soon be released for its development. Discussions also included numerous developmental projects aimed at enhancing Mizoram’s health sector.
Furthermore, Development of North Eastern Region or DoNER and Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia pledged to increase funds allocated to Mizoram through the North Eastern Council. He agreed to address the challenges Mizoram faces in utilising funds from Externally Aided Projects.
