Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has ramped up efforts to tackle illegal cross-border activities by directing the Border Security Force or BSF and Tripura Police officials to take stringent measures. This directive was issued during a high-level meeting aimed at addressing the recent surge in infiltration incidents along the Bharat-Bangladesh border.
Sources within the BSF indicated that the CM convened the meeting in response to the escalating incidents of infiltration. “Earlier today, a crucial meeting was convened at the CM’s office to discuss the growing infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals. Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Law and Order Additional Director General Anurag, BSF PSO Deputy Inspector General SK Sinha, along with other officials, were present,” stated an official.
During the session, CM Saha expressed grave concern over the uptick in Bangladeshi nationals entering Indian territory illegally. He highlighted the urgency of actions against individuals providing shelter and facilitating unlawful border crossings. “The CM instructed officials to take immediate and decisive action against those harbouring infiltrators and aiding their illegal entry into Bharat,” noted the BSF source.
Apart from this, the meeting addressed challenges stemming from current manpower allocations. DIG BSF SK Sinha highlighted the strain caused by recent electoral duties and BSF deployments in Manipur.
“Collaborative efforts across agencies are pivotal. Identifying and penalising middlemen will significantly curb infiltration incidents. BSF is advancing with plans to deploy electronic surveillance gadgets in vulnerable areas along the border. Various pertinent issues were deliberated upon during the session,” the source elaborated.
In addition to the meeting, CM Saha utilised social media to inform the public about ongoing efforts to combat border-related crimes. “Convened discussions with BSF and security agencies to assess issues related to human trafficking, smuggling, and other border crimes. Directed them to take proactive measures to halt all illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The State Government stands ready to provide necessary support,” he affirmed.
