Sikkim Ecclesiastical, PHE and Water Resources Departments Minister Sonam Lama met with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to advocate for the recognition of the State’s longstanding Ecclesiastical department at the Union level.
Minister Lama highlighted the financial difficulties faced by the Ecclesiastical department due to the lack of a parent ministry or agency at the Union level, which results in the absence of central schemes, welfare measures, and grants. He stressed the importance of establishing such authority to support the department’s functions.
Additionally, Lama requested Minister Rijiju to facilitate an early visit of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to Sikkim, assuring him of the Sikkim Government’s readiness to host the event.
Engineers and officials from the PHE department also presented a detailed plan outlining remedial measures for the series of natural calamities currently affecting Sikkim.
Rijiju listened attentively to these concerns and assured that he would address the issues effectively. He congratulated Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay and the Sikkimese people for their strong support in the recent elections, praising CM Tamang’s simple lifestyle and exceptional dedication to the people of Sikkim.
