A delegation of 41 individuals from Sikkim, including representatives from the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok, executive members of the Six Tibetan Associations, and 28 students from colleges and schools, has embarked on an educational tour to Dharamshala. This tour coincides with the celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6, where they are scheduled to join Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in the festivities.
CM Tamang, serving as the Chief Guest for the celebrations, highlighted the importance of this occasion for the Sikkim delegation. The tour aims to offer participants an in-depth understanding of the Central Tibetan Administration-CTA and an appreciation of Tibetan culture and traditions.
Prior to their departure, the delegation met with CM Tamang, who reiterated the government’s support for the educational tour. He encouraged the students to fully engage with the spiritual and cultural learning opportunities in Dharamshala, underlining the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
On the first day of their tour, the delegation visited the Norbulingka Institute in Dharamshala, where they explored Tibetan handlooms and handicrafts, gaining valuable insights into Tibet’s rich cultural heritage.
Tibetan Youth Congress president Tenzing Tsephel expressed gratitude to CM Tamang for facilitating this pioneering educational tour for Tibetan students from Sikkim. “We are honoured to have such a thoughtful CM,” Tsephel remarked.
A member of the delegation expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the significance of the opportunity. “It is essential for everyone to understand the Tibetan Government, Parliament, and culture,” she stated. “This opportunity is a blessing, and on behalf of all Tibetan students, we are grateful to the government for this chance.”
The students, appreciative of the opportunity, view the tour as a blessing that will enhance their knowledge of Tibetan administration and deepen their appreciation for Tibetan culture and traditions. They look forward to further explorations and learning during their stay in Dharamshala.
This educational tour epitomises a bridge between Sikkim and Dharamshala, promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding among participants. As they continue their journey, the delegation remains committed to absorbing the spiritual and cultural richness of Dharamshala, guided by the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
