Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has commended the Jal Jeevan Mission for its efforts in providing clean drinking water to flood-affected communities in the midst of its widespread devastation in Assam.
Sharing updates on X, the CM highlighted the project’s success in ensuring access to safe water even in inundated areas. He remarked, “While the floods have caused significant damage across the State, the Jal Jeevan Mission has emerged as a silver lining in these challenging times.”
CM Himanta further praised the initiative, noting, “The transformative water supply project is delivering clean drinking water during these tough times.”

However, in stark contrast, the situation in Karimganj tells a different story. Residents there continue to depend on murky river water for their daily needs. Despite the government’s ambitious “Har Ghar Jal” initiative, which aims to provide clean water to every household, many in Karimganj are still without this basic necessity.
Official documents claim that 80 per cent of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s work has been completed. Nevertheless, ground reality, especially in remote areas like Ward No 9 of Nivia in the Ramakrishnanagar constituency, reveals a significant gap. The residents in these areas are yet to benefit from the promised tap water supply, highlighting the disparities in the mission’s implementation.
