In a solemn ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu posthumously awarded Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles with the prestigious Shaurya Chakra. The ceremony paid tribute to Rao’s extraordinary courage and sacrifice during a critical operation in Manipur.

Despite sustaining grievous injuries from enemy fire, Rao continued to fight resolutely until his final moments, sacrificing his life in defence of the nation.
The Shaurya Chakra, Bharat’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award, was conferred on Rifleman Alok Rao in recognition of his unwavering determination, selfless dedication, and supreme bravery. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the poignant ceremony, where Rao’s parents accepted the prestigious honour on behalf of their son.
