In a matter of grave concern, two Myanmar nationals escaped from Serchhip district jail in Mizoram on the evening of July 6, according to official reports.
The absconders, identified as Lalchhanhima (44) from Leisen, Myanmar, and Lalnunnema (31), exploited the recreational period for jailbreak when inmates were playing volleyball. They returned sports equipment to the storeroom and then fled through the prison’s main entrance.
The escapees were arrested for possession of a large number of AK-47 assault rifles and had been in custody since June 10, 2024.
In response, the district jail superintendent has filed an FIR regarding the escape, and local police have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the fugitives.
