Mizoram police successfully recaptured one of the two Myanmar nationals, who had escaped from Serchhip district prison.
Prison Department officials reported that Lalnunnema, 31, a resident of Thantlang in Myanmar, was apprehended near Vanchengte village. He was found after an accident near a cliff, sustaining minor injuries.
Lalnunnema, along with fellow convict Lalchhanhima, 44, a resident of Leisen, Myanmar, escaped from the prison on the evening of Saturday. Both were initially arrested on June 10, 2024, for possession of a large number of AK-47 assault rifles.
The escape occurred in the afternoon while the inmates were playing volleyball. They managed to flee through the main jail entrance after returning their sports equipment to the storeroom.
