During his two-day visit to Moscow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed plans to open new Indian consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and business relations between Bharat and Russia.
Addressing the Indian community in Moscow, PM Modi shared his excitement about his first overseas interaction since being re-elected for a third term. “Amidst the positivity, I am here to share good news with you… We have decided to open consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg. This move will enhance travel opportunities and promote greater business exchanges,” he announced.
Highlighting his rapport with Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi praised their efforts to bolster bilateral ties. Over the last decade, PM Modi has visited Russia six times and met with President Putin seventeen times.
“All our meetings have consistently aimed to enhance trust and respect. When our students were stranded during the conflict, President Putin assisted in their safe return. I am grateful to the people of Russia and my friend President Putin,” he added.
PM Modi also highlighted the deep historical connections between Bharat and Russia, dating back to the 17th century with the establishment of the India House at Astrakhan by Gujarati traders.
He asserted on the importance of connectivity initiatives like the International North-South Trade Corridor and the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor in furthering bilateral cooperation.
The PM acknowledged the significant number of Indian students in Russia and the vibrant presence of Indian State associations, which help preserve the cultural diversity of Bharat through food, language, and festivals.
This visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to Russia in five years. The primary agenda includes addressing the trade imbalance with Russia and securing the release of Indian citizens misled into participating in the Ukraine conflict.
He concluded by encouraging the Indian community in Russia to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day with great enthusiasm, highlighting the strong cultural ties and the spirit of celebration shared by Indians in Russia.
