Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently engaged in talks with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the latter’s inaugural visit to Assam post-assuming office.
Highlighting critical concerns, CM Sarma pressed for support in rationalizing gas prices to meet Assam’s burgeoning power demands, which peak at over 2500 MW.

He also asserted on the accelerating need for housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), with 60 per cent of the sanctioned 1.7 lakh homes already delivered.
Additionally, Himanta Sarma outlined ambitious initiatives including achieving full urban drinking water supply, revitalizing the Guwahati River Front, and establishing a satellite township near Guwahati based on G20 principles. The discussion also broached the idea of establishing a Center of Excellence for Urban Planning in Assam to bolster urban development initiatives.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders affirming their dedication to addressing these pressing issues and advancing Assam’s overall growth and development agenda.
