Rajnath Singh, born on July 10, 1951, in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli, embarked on his political journey early in life. His involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during youth instilled leadership skills and a firm ideological foundation. Singh, a post-graduate in Physics from Gorakhpur University, also served as a Physics lecturer at KB Post-Graduate College in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Throughout his career, Rajnath Singh maintained close ties with Mahant Digvijaynath and the Gorakhnath math community, stemming from his formative years at Gorakhpur University. During the JP movement against the Indira Gandhi Government, Singh was arrested, reflecting his early involvement in grassroots activism.
Rajnath Singh’s political career began with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he quickly rose through the ranks. As Uttar Pradesh’s Education Minister in the late 1990s and subsequently as Chief Minister from 2000 to 2002, he focused on infrastructure development, maintaining law and order, and implementing welfare schemes.
His administrative prowess and leadership abilities led to his appointment as BJP National president in 2005, where he played a crucial role in shaping the party’s national agenda and organisational structure. He has been elected multiple times to the Lok Sabha from constituencies such as Lucknow and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, contributing significantly to the BJP’s success in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
As Bharat’s Defence Minister in the Narendra Modi Government, Rajnath Singh has spearheaded transformative initiatives within the Ministry of Defence. His efforts aim to modernise the armed forces, enhance domestic defence capabilities, and promote self-reliance in defence production.
