Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, while en route from Rongjuli in Goalpara to Guwahati, called on private companies to implement a family leave policy akin to the one adopted by the State Government. During a live broadcast, he detailed the State’s initiative, which provides government employees with two special leave days dedicated to family time, especially with elderly parents or in-laws.
“We all know that the Assam Government grants two days of leave to its employees for spending time with their families,” noted the CM. He explained that these special leaves can be combined with existing holidays, such as Chhat Puja on November 7, the second Saturday holiday on November 9, and the following Sunday, November 10. This allows employees to maximise family time and visit temples or other holy places.
“These days are meant for employees to honour and support their aging parents or in-laws, not for personal leisure,” asserted CM Himanta. The initiative encourages employees to dedicate time to their elderly family members, highlighting respect and care for them.
Himanta Sarma addressed a frequently asked question, “Why only government employees get these opportunities?” He urged private sector companies to adopt a similar policy, allowing their employees to enjoy quality family time. Specifically, he requested that private firms grant two days of leave on November 8 and 9.
Highlighting the importance of such policies, Himanta Sarma stressed that dedicating time to elderly family members is crucial for giving respect and care within the community. He called on private companies to implement similar measures, granting paid leave to employees on the specified dates.
If adopted by the private sector, this policy could significantly enhance family welfare and support systems across Assam, benefiting both employees and their families.
