Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the need for the BJP to avoid repeating the errors of the Congress, attributing BJP’s repeated electoral successes to its distinct approach. Speaking at a Goa BJP executive meeting near Panaji, Gadkari asserted on the importance of the party’s unique identity in maintaining voter trust.
“If we continue doing what the Congress used to do, there is no use of their exit and our entry,” Gadkari stated. His remarks come over a month after the BJP fell short of securing a majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
The meeting was attended by BJP’s state unit chief Sadanand Tanavade and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. In his 40-minute address, Gadkari reminisced about his mentor, former Deputy PM LK Advani, who often described the BJP as a “party with a difference.”
“Advani ji used to say that we are a party with a difference. We have to understand how different we are from the other parties,” Gadkari reiterated, cautioning against adopting the same mistakes that led to the Congress’s downfall.
Gadkari stressed the necessity for BJP cadres to view politics as a tool for social and economic reform, advocating for the creation of a corruption-free nation. He underlined the importance of having a concrete plan to achieve this goal.
Commenting on Maharashtra politics, Gadkari criticised the prevalent caste-based politics in his home state. He firmly stated his refusal to participate in caste politics, warning, “Jo karega jaat ki baat, usko padegi kaske laath” (those speaking about castes will be kicked out of power).
