During a recent interaction with staff and guests at Mumbai Mizoram House, Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the appointment of a new builder to resume the construction of the Mumbai Mizoram State Guest House & Emporium in Navi Mumbai. This construction, which began in 2013, had been halted.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) awarded a 1983.48 square meter plot in Sector 30A, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, to the Mizoram Government on September 2, 2018, for a lease period of 90 years. An initial agreement was made with the builder company US Roofs Ltd on January 1, 2009, and another agreement was signed between the Mizoram Government and CIDCO on March 9, 2010.
According to the agreement, the plot was designated for the State Guest House & Emporium, and US Roofs Ltd was required to complete the construction within five years. The foundation stone was laid on March 1, 2023, by the then Chief Minister of Mizoram, marking the commencement of the construction.
However, US Roofs Ltd halted the construction later that year due to objections from CIDCO regarding the construction of Arunachal Bhawan, which had a similar design.
Despite receiving multiple extensions from CIDCO, the last of which was from March 9, 2015, to March 8, 2017, and another until March 8, 2019, US Roofs Ltd failed to meet the deadlines and did not pay the extension fees.
CM Lalduhoma stated, “Since US Roofs Ltd failed to honour the agreement, the Assembly Committee visited the ongoing construction site and submitted their findings to the State Government. After an analysis by the Law & Judicial Department, the government decided to find a new builder to complete the project as planned and as permitted by CIDCO.”
The decision to terminate the agreement with US Roofs Ltd was made prior to the Chief Minister’s tour to Mumbai. Additionally, the CM donated Rs 2,00,000 for cancer patients staying at Mumbai Mizoram House, which prioritises accommodation for cancer patients referred from the State for treatment.
