Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his congratulations to KP Sharma Oli on assuming office as Nepal’s Prime Minister, marking Oli’s fourth term in the role. Oli, representing the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML), formed a coalition government with Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Nepali Congress following the failure of Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s trust vote last week.
In a message on X, PM Modi expressed, “Congratulations KP Sharma Oli on your appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.” He emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation between Bharat and Nepal for the mutual benefit and prosperity of both nations.
Bharat will closely monitor the foreign policy direction of Nepal’s new coalition government, particularly in light of Oli’s previous leanings towards strengthening ties with China and the territorial disputes over regions like Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, and Lipulekh, which are part of Bharat’s territory.
The diplomatic relations are expected to see further developments, including the appointment of a new Nepali envoy to Bharat, replacing the incumbent Shankar Sharma, who was recalled along with other ambassadors by the previous Nepali Government in June.
