Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asserted on the substantial potential of waterways in Nagaland and other Northeastern States during a recent statement to reporters.
Highlighting the region’s abundant water bodies, Sonowal expressed optimism about developing numerous locations into viable national waterways. He underlined the ongoing efforts to facilitate seamless cargo, passenger, and cruise vessel movements, noting, “There are 101 national waterways connecting Bharat with Myanmar and the Bay of Bengal.”
Sonowal praised Nagaland for its rich biodiversity and designated it as the Falcon Capital of the world. He outlined the ministry’s proactive steps in harnessing the region’s waterway potential, stating, “The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is taking significant initiatives to leverage these resources, enhancing connectivity and promoting cruise tourism globally.”
Acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the Northeast, Sonowal affirmed, “PM Modi is deeply invested in the region’s growth and has directed our ministry to take decisive actions.”
