Bhola Nath College in Dhubri has achieved a significant milestone by being granted autonomous status for the next 10 academic years, following its A+ Grade in the NAAC evaluation. The decision was ratified by the Central Education Ministry through the Standing Committee on Autonomous Colleges.
According to the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023, Dr Gopi Chand Merugu, Deputy Secretary at the University Grants Commission under the Ministry of Education, formalised the autonomous status during a meeting on June 25, 2024. This status will be effective from the academic year 2024–2025 to 2033–2034.
Gauhati University has been instructed to issue a notification within 30 days regarding the grant of autonomous status to Bhola Nath College, Dhubri.
The college is mandated to comply with all UGC Regulations for Autonomous Colleges. Failure to meet these standards outlined in Clause-13 of the UGC Regulations may result in penalties.
Furthermore, the college must apply for an extension of autonomous status three months before the current period ends, as per directives from Dr Gopi Chand Merugu. It is also advised to pursue NAAC/NBA accreditation six months prior to the expiry of the current validity and adhere to UGC guidelines regarding Examination Cell and statutory bodies.
Additionally, the college is urged to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and inform the UGC accordingly, ensuring effective management of academic, financial, and administrative affairs.
