Mizoram minister Lalsawivunga has lauded the accomplishments of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement-ZPM, asserting that in just seven months, they have achieved what the Mizo National Front-MNF and Congress could not achieve in their combined 37 years of governance.
Speaking at an event held at the ZPM office, Lalsawivunga, who oversees portfolios including art and culture and animal husbandry, highlighted that the previous MNF administration left behind liabilities exceeding Rs 13,500 crore. This amount represents 95.6 per cent of the State’s annual budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year, he noted.
The minister pointed out that despite inheriting significant financial burdens, the current government has managed to utilise borrowed funds effectively. They have successfully cleared pending medical and power bills, ensuring timely disbursement of salaries and pensions.
Critiquing the MNF and Congress, Lalsawivunga accused them of resorting to unproductive criticism rather than acknowledging the ZPM’s achievements. He asserted the ZPM government has undertaken tasks that previous administrations either could not accomplish or chose not to pursue.
ZPM came to power in Mizoram following the December 2023 Assembly elections, securing 27 out of 40 seats, marking a significant mandate in the State’s political landscape.
