After the Haryana Government was ordered to remove roadblocks at the Shambhu border, which separates Haryana and Punjab, protesting farmers are preparing to march to Delhi. Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Sidhupur president Jagjeet Singh Dallewal stated they plan to continue their peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar or Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
The farmers have been protesting against the Central Government, demanding a guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. Since February, they have been camping at the Haryana border following clashes with police as they attempted to march to Delhi.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has now directed the State Government to remove the barricades at the border, citing inconvenience to commuters. However, the Haryana Government has challenged this ruling in the Supreme Court, raising concerns about law and order.
Dallewal asserted if they are stopped again and the road is blocked, “the government will be responsible.” He mentioned plans for a peaceful protest in Ambala to express solidarity with Navdeep Singh, who was arrested during the March protest and faces charges including rioting and attempted murder.
In response to the Haryana Government’s Supreme Court challenge, Dallewal asserted, “It is the government that has blocked the road, not farmers.”
Dallewal also questioned the probe panel formed to investigate the death of Shubhkaran Singh, who was killed during a clash between protesting farmers and Haryana security personnel in February. Shubhkaran Singh, a 21-year-old resident of Bathinda, died at Khanauri on the Punjab-Haryana border on February 21.
