External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated Bharat’s unwavering support to Mauritius in its journey towards progress and prosperity during his two-day visit to the island nation. This visit marks a significant bilateral engagement underlining the strong and multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
“Bharat’s ties with Mauritius have blossomed into a robust and multifaceted partnership. The bilateral relation with Mauritius serves as a role model for Bharat’s successful development collaboration abroad,” Jaishankar said at an event attended by Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

In the event, at least 12 High Impact Community Development Projects funded by Bharat were inaugurated, agreements on education, culture, digitisation of Immigration Archives, and collaboration in the field of space and innovation were exchanged.
“Bharat has close, long-standing relations with Mauritius, an island nation in the Western Indian Ocean, owing to historical, demographic and cultural reasons,” according to the Indian High Commission at Mauritius website.
Jaishankar and Jugnauth handed over OCI cards to seventh-generation Indian-origin people in Mauritius. The visit highlights the importance of the Bharat-Mauritius relationship and is a reflection of Bharat’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, Vision SAGAR, and commitment to the Global South.
