Mizoram administration is struggling to implement policies swiftly due to the massive debt burden left by the previous government, mentioned Chief Minister Lalduhoma in an official statement.
During a meeting of the Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee, he explained that the government’s flagship Handholding policy cannot be fully implemented this fiscal year because of the need to repay public debt.
The CM noted that the government will undertake significant projects based on the State’s financial condition.
Despite these financial challenges, the State Government will purchase four crops – ginger, chilli, turmeric, and broomsticks – from farmers, as announced during the meeting.
State Animal Husbandry Minister Lalsawivunga revealed that the previous MNF government left over Rs 13,500 crore in liabilities, amounting to 95.6 per cent of the State’s annual budget of Rs 14,209.94 crore for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
