In a joint operation by the State and Central forces, 60 Myanmar refugees were identified in Govajang village near Border Pillar 80 in Manipur’s border village Moreh. Conducted recently, this operation involved the State police, Assam Rifles and Border Security Force.
The early morning operation, led by Moreh Additional SP (Ops) Md Riyajuddin, verified the identities of 280 individuals. Out of these, 60 were confirmed to have crossed the border from Myanmar.
Reports indicate that Assam Rifles had already gathered biometric data from these refugees. This process, however, took place without the participation of State authorities, raising questions on the coordination between the Central and State forces.
In response, the Tengnoupal district police plan to conduct their own biometric data collection for these refugees. Furthermore, those identified will need to report to the Moreh police station for additional processing.
