The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP convened an extended State executive meeting at IMC Hall in Dimapur on July 16. During the meeting, the party affirmed its full support for the comprehensive policies and programs initiated by the BJP-led NDA Government.
Commending the NDA Government on its victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Nagaland BJP unit highlighted the alignment of these policies with the developmental aspirations of the Nagaland populace. They specifically endorsed initiatives such as the Act East Policy, Northeast Economic Corridor, and various socio-economic and infrastructure projects underway across Nagaland and the Northeast region.
Additionally, the party congratulated the PDA Government, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, on their success in the 2023 NLA general polls.
In a press release, the BJP Nagaland unit reiterated its support for BLP leader Y Patton and Benjamin Yepthomi, the State president, in their leadership roles within the party.
“The BJP Nagaland unit unequivocally supports a timely and inclusive resolution to the longstanding Naga Political issue. We commend the efforts of all Naga political groups engaged in peace talks with the Central Government, urging expedited processes towards a final settlement,” stated the Nagaland unit, appealing to both the Centre and the negotiating factions to accelerate this critical peace-building process for lasting stability in Nagaland.
Furthermore, the BJP State Executive endorsed proposals by BJP legislators for the appointment of Deputy Chairpersons in urban local bodies and advocated for the inclusion of BJP nominees in municipal and town councils.
“The BJP State Executive has decided to endorse the appointment of a government nominee from the minority community in the Dimapur Municipal Council,” the statement affirmed.
The party also resolved to recommend only active party workers for positions such as PDA Members and PSU Chairpersons, strictly prohibiting any other recommendations under any circumstances to uphold meritocracy and organisational integrity.
“To ensure transparency and meritocracy, the BJP State Executive has resolved that recommendations for State Level Morcha positions will be processed exclusively through the District organisational structure under the leadership of the District President,” stressed the press release.
Highlighting the importance of regular consultation and coordination, the BJP State executive mandated quarterly joint meetings between BJP legislators and office bearers. They also announced plans to convene the next BJP State Executive meeting at Tuensang District Headquarters in November, followed by another meeting at Noklak District Headquarters in April 2025.
“To strengthen grassroots presence and expand party membership, the BJP State executive commits to forming booth-level committees in all polling booths across the State before the next State Executive meeting at Tuensang District Headquarters,” the press release concluded.
