In a significant move to enhance discipline and accountability, Manipur University has adopted new regulations for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes in Science, Arts, Commerce, and other streams.
The Manipur University’s Admission and Examination Regulations for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes, 2022, passed on November 16, 2022, mandates that students must attend at least 75 per cent of total classes to be eligible for semester examinations, along with other specified conditions.
Today’s meeting saw a detailed discussion involving various college principals, who collectively emphasised the necessity of regular attendance for both students and teachers in Government and Government Aided Colleges. This measure aims to instil a sense of responsibility, punctuality, and integrity among students.
The principals of these colleges decided upon the following actions for implementation:
Daily Assembly: A daily assembly lasting approximately 15-20 minutes for staff and students will be held on all academic days. The timing of the assembly will be decided by each college to ensure maximum student participation.
Motivational Use of Assembly: Principals will ensure that assemblies are used effectively to motivate both staff and students.
Patriotic and Motivational Activities: The assembly will include activities such as singing the National Anthem, State Song, and sharing ‘Thoughts of the Day.’
Strict Enforcement of Attendance Rule: The regulation requiring a minimum of 75 per cent attendance will be strictly enforced.
Examination Form Restrictions: Students with attendance below 75per cent will not be allowed to fill out examination forms.
Scholarship Form Restrictions: Principals will not approve scholarship forms for students who do not meet the minimum attendance requirement.
Monitoring Teacher Attendance: Principals will monitor teacher attendance and ensure adherence to the Academic Calendar issued by Manipur University. Any lapses will be reported to the Director of University & Higher Education, Manipur.
To ensure compliance, the Director of University & Higher Education, Manipur, will form a committee to monitor and enforce these regulations by all concerned parties.
