In a crucial move at identifying illegal immigrants from Myanmar, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has confirmed the collection of biometric details from 24 individuals in Tengnoupal district. The operation, conducted in Govajang village, involved a joint effort by State police, Assam Rifles personnel, and government officials.
The initiative, led by officials including Md Ejaj of Tengnoupal and SDO Moreh, marks a renewed effort to re-verify and accurately identify residents in the area. This effort had previously been paused due to security concerns but resumed recently under enhanced security measures.
CM Singh highlighted the importance of this operation in ensuring security and addressing issues related to illegal immigration. He expressed appreciation for the dedication and effort of security personnel and officials involved in the operation.
He further asserted that similar biometric exercises will continue in Moreh and neighbouring areas, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen border security along Manipur’s 398-km border with Myanmar, much of which remains unfenced.
The collection of biometric data is part of broader efforts by the State Government to manage and secure its borders effectively, aiming to regulate and verify the presence of residents in border areas, particularly amidst ongoing regional security challenges.
