On the foundation day of the Press Club of Sikkim (PCS), Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced a series of remarkable measures to support and recognise journalists in the State.
One of the key announcements was that the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department will provide an annual grant to celebrate the Press Club of Sikkim Foundation Day. This celebration will feature cash awards of Rs 1,01,000 for the Kanchenjunga Kalam Puraskar recipient and Rs 51,000 for the Lagansheel Yuwa Patrakar award.
Besides, CM Tamang declared that a grant from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) fund will be allocated for journalists’ pensions, with eligibility criteria set by the Press Club of Sikkim.
To ensure the health and well-being of journalists, Tamang announced plans for health insurance coverage for Press Club of Sikkim members. The State Government will coordinate with the Central Referral Hospital (CRH) Manipal and the IPR Department to finalise the insurance arrangements.
Additionally, the CM promised a revision of advertisement rates for both daily and weekly newspapers, addressing a long-standing demand of the local media community.
