Assam’s flood situation showed signs of improvement, with the affected population decreasing to 95,000, even as new areas are inundated and the number of districts impacted rose to 11 on Sunday, according to an official bulletin.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority or ASDMA bulletin reported that 95,554 people across 21 revenue circles and 345 villages in 11 districts remain affected by the floods.
The impacted districts include Morigaon, Kamrup, Dhemaji, Kamrup Metropolitan, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Golaghat, Goalpara, Jorhat, and Cachar.
As of Saturday, the affected population was 1.30 lakh across 10 districts. The toll from this year’s floods, landslides, lightning, and storms stands at 113.
Nagaon remains the worst-hit district, with 70,280 people still suffering from the floods.
Approximately 6,467.5 hectares of cropland are submerged, and 13,004 animals are affected.
A total of 6,311 displaced individuals have sought refuge in 35 relief camps, and one relief distribution centre is operational, serving 470 people.
The Brahmaputra River continues to flow above the red mark in Dhubri district, being the only major river still above the danger level.
The ASDMA bulletin also mentioned that some infrastructure, including houses and roads, has sustained damage in several affected districts.
