Kokrajhar Government College officially transformed into Kokrajhar University following Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s formal assent to the Kokrajhar University Act, 2024, which was enacted on March 15, 2024.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the upgrade through a post on his X handle, stating, “The all-round development of BTR is our persistent effort, and quality education is fundamental to this progress. Upgrading Kokrajhar Govt College to a university will significantly enhance the quality of education and advance research and development in key areas.”
Bodoland University, also located in Kokrajhar district, introduced an innovative course aimed at empowering non-literate farmers earlier in July. This initiative marks a major advancement towards inclusive education and rural development.
The newly launched program addresses the unique needs of farmers, who have never received formal schooling. It offers practical, hands-on training in essential agricultural practices, including crop management, soil health, and modern farming technologies.
The curriculum extends beyond agricultural skills to include financial literacy and market linkage strategies, providing a comprehensive toolkit designed to improve the participants’ livelihoods and economic status.
Topics covered in the course range from pearl cultivation and vermi composting to biogas production from cow dung, areca nut plate-making, bio-floc fish farming, mushroom cultivation, value-added food product production, plant tissue culture, and bee keeping.
