A tense situation erupted on the Assam-Nagaland border following a firing incident during late night on Sunday. The shooting reportedly occurred near Mariani’s Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest, where it is suspected that armed individuals from Nagaland fired at livestock belonging to a local resident.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The livestock targeted in the attack were owned by Komora Saora, and several animals went missing as a result of the incident. In response, a high-level team from the Assam Police promptly arrived at the scene to investigate and transported the injured animals to Mariani Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
The incident has heightened fears and anxiety among Assamese residents living near the border. It recalls past tensions, including an earlier attack on the Mariani MLA by suspected Naga miscreants and ongoing allegations of Naga encroachments into Assam. Despite these recurring issues, there are criticisms that the Assam Government has not implemented effective measures to address the situation.
