Soreng Police, with critical assistance from Delhi Police, successfully located and rescued a missing girl from Sikkim in Delhi. The operation, led by PI Latta Bardewa and coordinated by SP Soreng, Nahkul Pradhan, demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in addressing serious cases.
The successful rescue was also supported by MN Sherpa, Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, highlighting the importance of community and governmental support in such operations.
Earlier, the 14-year-old girl had reported a distressing incident of sexual harassment. While travelling from Deorali to Ranipool, she was allegedly harassed by a taxi driver, Buddha Raj Rai, who inappropriately touched her near the 6th Mile petrol pump. Her prompt action to call her mother led to the filing of a formal FIR.
The case, registered at Ranipool Police Station (FIR No. 34/2024), falls under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Medical examinations have been conducted for both the victim and the accused. Rai, from Lower Aho, District Pakyong, Sikkim, has been arrested and remains in police custody.
The operation also included routine checks where four vehicles were challenged under the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure compliance and safety.
