PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has enabled Assam to install 1,073 kW of solar power across 311 households, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
With robust support from the Interim Budget 2024 and Union Budget 2024, the scheme is set to see widespread adoption, bringing renewable energy to numerous homes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ in February, aiming to promote solar energy and sustainable growth. The initiative seeks to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to one crore households, with an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore.
To make the scheme affordable, the government will offer substantial subsidies directly to bank accounts and provide highly concessional bank loans. PM Modi assured that the initiative would not impose any financial burden on citizens. A National Online Portal will connect all stakeholders.
Urban local bodies and panchayats will receive incentives to promote rooftop solar systems in their areas, which will help increase incomes, reduce power bills, and generate employment.
The PM urged residential consumers, especially young people, to support the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ by applying through the official portal: pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
