Assam secured a funding of USD 333.80 million from the New Development Bank for the construction of a 4-lane extra-dosed bridge over the Brahmaputra River, which will connect Palashbari and Sualkuchi in Assam.
This project, dubbed the Assam Bridge Project-II, marks the bank’s second venture funding bridge construction over the Brahmaputra, following its support for the ongoing Guwahati-North Guwahati six-lane bridge.
To be executed in the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode, the project will include viaducts, approaches, and River Training Works. The Assam Government will provide Rs 6.77 billion as counterpart funding.
The new bridge is set to bolster transport infrastructure by providing a direct connection between the northern and southern parts of the Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA). The 12.2-km bridge aims to enhance regional and urban connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and establish a crucial link between the international airport and the industrial zones around Sualkuchi.
Scheduled for completion within four years, the project will be managed by the Assam Public Works Roads Department (APWRD).
The New Development Bank, founded by the BRICS States, is a multilateral development bank dedicated to funding infrastructure and sustainable development projects.
