In a dramatic 24-hour period in Jammu and Kashmir, the region has witnessed two separate terrorist encounters. A clash occurred during a search operation conducted by the Indian Army in Kupwara on Wednesday. It resulted in the death of one terrorist and injury to a soldier.
The previous day, a soldier was killed while the Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Poonch district, close to the Line of Control.
The latest operation in Kupwara was initiated after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the Kowut area. On July 24, troops detected suspicious movement and confronted the terrorists, who responded with heavy fire. The Army confirmed that one terrorist was neutralised during the firefight, while a non-commissioned officer sustained injuries. The operation is ongoing.
In addition, the body of Lance Naik Subash Kumar, who was critically injured in the previous day’s encounter and later succumbed to his injuries, has been returned to the Army following an autopsy.
This recent spike in terrorist activities, particularly in Jammu, has heightened concerns about a potential resurgence of militancy in the region.
