YouTuber Dhruv Rathee is facing legal scrutiny after a Delhi court issued summon in response to a defamation suit filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suresh Karamshi Nakhua. The lawsuit stems from allegations that Rathee referred to Nakhua as a “violent and abusive” troll in a video posted on July 7.
Summon was ordered by District Judge Gunjan Gupta of the Saket Court on July 19. Alongside summon, the court has addressed Nakhua’s request for interim relief and set the next hearing for August 6.
The court’s order stipulates, “Issue summons of the suit and notice of the application u/o 39 Rule 1 and 2 CPC to the defendants, subject to steps by all modes i.e. PF & RC/Speed Post/ Approved Courier including electronic mode for 06.08.2024. Process be also given dasti, as prayed.”
In his complaint, Nakhua alleges that Rathee’s video made “bold and unsubstantiated claims,” branding him as part of a group of “violent and abusive trolls.” He argues that these accusations are unfounded and have harmed his reputation.
Nakhua claims that the video was deliberately crafted to damage his integrity and public image. According to the petition, the video’s allegations have not only cast doubt on his character but have also caused significant and lasting harm to his personal and professional life.
