In a significant boost for the energy sector, Bharat’s coal production reached 294.20 million tonnes (MT) in July, marking a robust growth of 10.70 per cent compared to the same period last year, which stood at 265.77 MT.
The Coal Ministry has set an ambitious target for the fiscal year 2024-25, aiming for a total production of 1,080 MT. This surge in production highlights the Ministry’s dedication to meeting the energy needs of various sectors while focusing on sustainable economic development.
Coal dispatches also saw a notable increase, reaching 311.48 MT as of July 19, 2024, which represents an 8.49 per cent rise from the 287.12 MT recorded in the previous year. This increase in dispatches not only supports the operational requirements of key industries but also stabilises the overall energy market.
The Coal Ministry accentuated its commitment to ensuring that coal remains affordable and accessible for all sectors, which is crucial for the nation’s growth and development. By maintaining a steady and reliable supply, the Ministry aims to enhance energy security and support essential economic sectors.
The Coal Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Power, and other relevant departments, is focused on ensuring an adequate supply of coal at notified prices for critical sectors such as Power and Fertilizers. Additionally, efforts extend to non-regulated sectors, including Steel, Cement, Paper, and Sponge Iron, all of which are integral to India’s economic advancement.
Through these strategic initiatives, the Ministry of Coal is positioned to play a pivotal role in driving the country’s economic progress, ensuring a consistent and cost-effective coal supply for industries reliant on this vital resource.
