Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced he will personally invite the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs to attend the forthcoming Assembly session. This gesture aims to encourage their participation in the legislative process amid the ongoing ethnic violence affecting the State.
Speaking to reporters, Singh stated, “I will extend the invitations both personally and through the Assembly. We hope that the Kuki-Zo MLAs will join us, and we are prepared to cooperate fully.”
The Assembly’s sixth session is scheduled from July 31 to August 6. The Kuki-Zo legislators, including two ministers, had been absent from the last two sessions due to the conflict. The fourth session, held on August 29 last year, was adjourned after only 11 minutes, with no Kuki-Zo MLAs present.
Singh also revealed his plans to travel to Delhi for a NITI Aayog meeting and a chief ministers’ conclave. “I will address the ongoing situation in Manipur and seek immediate solutions for the crisis. I am hopeful for positive outcomes from these discussions,” he said before heading to the national capital.
Addressing recent violence, Singh commented on an arson incident in Jiribam district, where an abandoned house was set on fire. “I have investigated the incident and spoken with leaders from both communities. There is no evidence suggesting involvement from either community. The police are actively pursuing the perpetrators, who appear to be aiming to incite further violence,” Singh noted.
