State-owned SJVN Ltd has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the 2,400 MW pumped storage project, valued at over Rs 13,947 crore, by the Mizoram Government. The project will be developed on a nomination basis.
An agreement between SJVN and the Mizoram Government is expected to be finalised within the next three months, as outlined in the LoI. This initiative marks SJVN’s first venture in Mizoram.
The Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project will be located across Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River, and is designed with an installed capacity of 2,400 MW. The total estimated cost, including interest during construction and financing costs, stands at Rs 13,947.50 crore at April 2023 prices.
The project will utilise the available gross heads of the upper and lower reservoirs, which are 770 metres.
The upper reservoir is planned on a minor stream of Hnahchanglui Nallah in the Koladyne Tuipui River near South Vanlaiphai village, while the lower reservoir is proposed in Darzo Nallah, approximately 5.5 km upstream of its confluence with the Tuipui River near Vertek village.
