India’s dominant performance in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 semifinal saw them cruise to a 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh, securing their place in the final for the ninth time. Pacer Renuka Singh’s early breakthrough and Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten fifty highlighted the comprehensive win.
Renuka Singh’s exceptional bowling restricted Bangladesh to a modest 80 for 8, with her 3 for 10 dismantling their top order. Singh’s relentless attack saw her dismiss Dilara Akter with a simple catch and then account for Ishma Tanjim and Murshida Khatun in successive overs. Radha Yadav’s left-arm spin supported Renuka, taking 3 for 14 and further crushing Bangladesh’s chances.
Bangladesh’s captain, Nigar Sultana, stood out with a resilient 32 off 51 balls, but lacked support as India’s bowlers maintained tight control. Sultana’s efforts were insufficient to alter the course of the game as the Indian spinners and fielders kept a tight grip on the match.
India’s chase was led by Mandhana, who struck an unbeaten 55 off 39 balls, including nine boundaries and a six, while Shafali Verma contributed 26 not out off 28 balls. The pair guided India to an untroubled win, reaching 83 for no loss in 11 overs.
The final will see India face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka, with the second semifinal determining their opponent.
