Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the ongoing situation in the State, which has faced severe ethnic violence since May 3 last year.
In a post on X, CM Biren expressed, “It was a pleasure meeting Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in New Delhi. We had an in-depth discussion about the situation in Manipur. I also requested Rajnath Singh to expedite the handover of the Koirengei Air Field land to the State Government.”

Apart from this, the CM held discussions with the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and “had an engaging meeting” where they discussed some of the points like “expediting highways construction and repairing roads damaged by recent floods in the State”.

Additionally, CM Biren met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In another post on X, he mentioned, “Key points discussed: Complete the railway works at Noney and Khoupum side as soon as possible. Finalise and operationalise the Jiribam-Imphal railway line. I also extend my gratitude to Ashwini Vaishnaw for the first consignment of food grains by train at Khongsang Railway Station, Noney District.”

The violence in Manipur has resulted in at least 220 deaths, 1,500 injuries, and 60,000 displacements since the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities began.
