Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has unveiled plans to enhance the State’s workforce by integrating retired Agniveers into local police and emergency services.
As part of this initiative, the State Government will provide specialised training for local youth under the Agnipath scheme, with a focus on recruiting former Agniveers for roles in the State’s police, fire services, and emergency units.
The Agnipath scheme, launched by the Central Government in 2022, offers a four-year contractual service to individuals aged 17.5 to 21 in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, designating them as Agniveers.
Post-service, 25 per cent of these recruits are eligible for permanent positions, while the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has set aside 10 per cent of vacancies in Central Armed Police Forces for former Agniveers.
CM Khandu stressed the importance of this initiative in equipping Arunachal Pradesh’s youth with the skills required to serve both the state and the nation. “The Arunachal Pradesh Government will provide training to local youths to prepare them for recruitment under the Agnipath scheme,” Khandu affirmed.
Additionally, the State Government will prioritise the recruitment of retired Agniveers from the State for positions within the Arunachal Pradesh Police, AP Battalions, and Emergency and Fire Services. This approach reflects a broader trend among States aiming to leverage the experience of former Agniveers for strengthening local security and emergency response capabilities.
