Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that transforming Bharat into a developed nation by 2047 is a collective ambition of every Indian. He highlighted the pivotal role States can play in realizing this vision, given their direct connection with the populace.
Speaking at the Ninth Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, PM Modi stated, “The vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ is shared by every Indian. States are crucial in achieving this goal as they are intimately connected with the people,” as noted in a post on X by NITI Aayog.
The meeting, in which Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, Union Ministers, and NITI Aayog members participated, aimed to promote participative governance and encourage collaboration between the Centre and State governments. The objective was to enhance the quality of life for both rural and urban communities by improving government intervention delivery mechanisms.
However, several State governments, particularly those led by non-BJP parties, had expressed their intention to boycott the meeting. Chief Ministers from Congress-ruled States, including Siddaramaiah of Karnataka, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh, and Revanth Reddy of Telangana, cited perceived bias against their States in the recent Union Budget as their reason for not attending.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and the Aam Aadmi Party-led governments of Punjab and Delhi also opted out of the meeting.
Bharat is on a promising trajectory to become the world’s third-largest economy and aims to reach a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047.
