Thupten Lhamu has been crowned Miss Universe Arunachal 2024, earning the right to represent the State in the forthcoming Miss Universe India pageant. This victory marks a significant milestone in her journey towards competing on the global stage.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media to celebrate Lhamu’s achievement. “Youth of Arunachal Pradesh are versatile & dynamic!” Khandu posted adding, “We all join in praying for your success in the grand event. Our best wishes.”
This year, the Miss Universe selection process in Bharat has undergone a transformation. State winners, including Lhamu, will now compete for the national title at Miss Universe India. The winner of this national competition will then advance to represent Bharat in the Miss Universe pageant.
The Miss Universe pageant, established in 1952, is one of the most-watched beauty contests worldwide, attracting contestants from nearly 100 countries. It evaluates participants not only on their physical appearance but also their intelligence, poise, and social consciousness.
Bharat has won the Miss Universe title three times: Sushmita Sen in 1994, Lara Dutta in 2000, and Harnaaz Sandhu in 2021.
