In a tragic incident early this morning, two people were killed and 20 others injured after approximately 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo in Jharkhand, about 80 km from Jamshedpur. The derailment occurred around 3:45 am, prompting immediate rescue and relief operations.
West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is at the accident site, confirmed the casualties and injuries, stating, “Two people were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo. Rescue operations are on, and an NDRF team is rushing to the spot.”
Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan reported that a nearby goods train had also derailed, though it remains unclear if the two accidents happened simultaneously. Among the derailed coaches were 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car.
The injured passengers received first aid from the Railways’ medical team and were subsequently transported to Chakradharpur for further treatment. The exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
