On the Global Tiger Day, the National Tiger Conservation Authority or NTCA and the Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change Ministry celebrated the courage and dedication of Assam’s frontline forest staff.
The ceremony, held in Delhi, honoured six personnel from the Assam Forest Department, including constables Gagan Kakati, Debajit Doley, and Sunil Hazarika, as well as boatman Mintu Das and foresters Nayanjyoti Pathak and Bashiram Brahma.
They received the ‘Wildlife Protection and Anti-Poaching Activities’ award for their exceptional bravery in combating poaching.
Notably, the awards recognised four staff members from Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) for their role in thwarting a rhino poaching attempt on May 11. The awardees from KNPTR are Constables Gagan Kakati, Sunil Hazarika, Debajit Doley, and Boatman Mintu Das. Their quick action led to the recovery of weapons from the poachers, sending a strong message of zero tolerance towards wildlife crime.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his pride and extended congratulations for the awardees. He highlighted that their actions reflect the highest standards of wildlife conservation and anti-poaching efforts.
