Starting August 1, the National Payments Corporation of India or NPCI will enforce new guidelines for FASTag users, with a significant focus on Know Your Customer-KYC requirements.
FASTag has played a crucial role in easing toll payments and minimizing traffic jams at toll plazas. The forthcoming changes, however, will bring about notable impacts for users.
Service providers will have a deadline until October 31 to complete the KYC process for all FASTags issued between three to five years ago.
Users with FASTags from this period must update their KYC details to ensure uninterrupted service.
Moreover, FASTags older than five years need to be replaced. Vehicle owners are advised to verify the issuance dates of their FASTags and take the necessary steps promptly to avoid any service disruptions.
These updates are especially critical for owners of older vehicles. Between August 1 and October 31, FASTag providers are required to comply with several NPCI mandates.
Providers must update the KYC for FASTags aged three to five years and replace those older than five years. Missing these deadlines could lead to significant inconveniences, so staying informed about these changes is essential.
Starting August 1, all FASTags must be linked to the vehicle’s registration and chassis numbers.
New vehicle owners must update their registration number within 90 days of purchase. FASTag providers are responsible for maintaining accurate and current databases, which includes verifying and updating all details.
Additionally, providers must now upload clear photos of the vehicle’s front and side to facilitate easy identification. Each FASTag must also be connected to a mobile number to ensure smooth communication and updates.
The final deadline for completing all KYC requirements is October 31, 2024. To avoid potential issues, it’s advisable not to delay these updates.
