In response to the recent tragic deaths of three civil services aspirants, coaching institutes across Delhi have stepped forward with support measures for affected students. The incident occurred on July 27 when heavy rain caused flooding in the basement library of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, leading to the deaths of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalwin.
Several UPSC coaching centres have announced initiatives to assist the victims’ families and provide support to their peers. Vajiram & Ravi has pledged to admit students currently enrolled at Rau’s IAS Study Circle free of charge. Additionally, they have committed to donating ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
Next IAS has also offered a similar financial contribution of ₹10 lakh to each family and announced plans to provide free classes for Rau’s IAS students to cover the remaining syllabus. They are working to resume classes at their Delhi centre and are establishing a temporary reading room and a ‘Student Care Cell’ to further support the students.
SriRam IAS coaching institute has promised ₹10 lakh in financial aid to each victim’s family, including the family of Nilesh Rai, who died due to electrocution in Laxmi Nagar. They have also extended an open invitation for Rau’s IAS students to use their facilities.
These gestures come amid growing backlash from students who have expressed concerns about high fees, unsafe conditions, and exploitation within coaching institutes. In response to the tragedy, civil services aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar have organised protests and are in the process of forming a core committee to address their grievances with authorities.
