The Paris Olympic Games have become a hotbed of controversy following the “gender row” in women’s boxing. Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, labelled as a “biological male,” won against Italian boxer Angela Carini, who abandoned the match after just 46 seconds.
Prominent figures, including Elon Musk, have criticised the International Olympic Committee’s decision to allow Khelif to compete in the women’s category. Indian sprinter Dutee Chand, who has faced similar challenges, shared her views on the matter.
“In 2014, I challenged the IOC’s rule that athletes with higher testosterone levels shouldn’t compete at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland,” revealed Dutee Chand. “It was noted that hormonal levels cannot increase athletic performance. I faced a lot of controversy regarding my gender back then.”
Chand continued, “Yesterday, during the Olympic match, Carini gave up and now complains about the Algerian boxer due to high testosterone levels. When you compete in the Olympics, you undergo several tests. I don’t think it’s right to create controversy about this on social media.”
